The Art of Listening

Counselling

At the heart of my counselling work is careful, attentive listening. Listening is not simply hearing words, but being present with what is spoken, what is felt, and what may be difficult to put into words.

My early counselling skills training with COSCA provided a strong foundation in relational presence and attentive listening. I am now completing an MSc in Pluralistic Counselling, where my listening practice continues to develop within a collaborative, client-centred approach that values each person’s individual experience.

This includes attending not only to spoken words, but also to emotional tone, pauses, and silence. This way of listening helps create a space where experiences can be explored without judgement or pressure.

Listening in counselling is not about advice-giving or directing change. It is about offering a steady, reliable presence where clients can reflect, develop understanding, and move at a pace that feels safe.
