The Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
What is EFT?
The Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a complementary, body-based approach that some people find helpful when working with stress, emotional intensity, and unhelpful patterns of response.
EFT is often described as combining elements of focused attention with gentle tapping on specific points on the body, using the fingertips. During EFT, attention is brought to a particular thought, emotion, or experience while tapping is used to support regulation and awareness.
Some people find EFT supportive for:
stress and anxiety
emotional overwhelm
self-criticism or limiting beliefs
confidence and performance-related concerns
processing difficult experiences at a manageable pace
EFT is not a medical treatment and is not intended to diagnose or cure physical or mental health conditions. Instead, it is offered as a supportive, complementary technique, used alongside other therapeutic or wellbeing approaches where appropriate.
In my work, EFT is offered gently and collaboratively, and only where it feels suitable for the individual. It is always paced carefully, with attention to safety, consent, and personal preference. EFT may be used on its own or integrated with counselling-informed or holistic work, depending on what feels most helpful for you.
You’re welcome to watch the enclosed video, which offers an example of how EFT may be used by trained practitioners in work with trauma-related experiences.
I’ve included this video to illustrate one way EFT is sometimes applied within a broader therapeutic context. It is shared for information and reflection, rather than as an endorsement or guarantee of outcomes.
